I have had a couple of customers approach me lately about their vehicles gas mileage, or lack of it. After a couple of questions about their vehicle and driving habits I recommended a couple of basic ideas for them to follow.

1. Keep your tires properly inflated and checked regularly
This is huge, because under inflation is not only a gas waster, it is a potentially dangerous situation. The heat buildup and rolling resistance caused be an under inflated tire can rob a vehicle of 10% or more of its potential gas mileage. A tire with lower than recommended pressure has a much greater chance of “blowing” than one properly inflated.

2. Don’t carry a lot of extra weight around in your vehicle
The snow chains that were thrown in during the trip to the mountains last winter should be removed and stored until needed again. I have opened many trunks and found things that didnt need to be there. So have a “Garage Sale” for your trunk. This list includes: golf clubs,
3. Have your vehicle maintenance kept up.
To not follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for service and maintenance is setting you up for wasted GAS and MONEY. The cost of preventative maintenance far outweighs the potential loss of time and loss of vehicle performance caused by lack of maintenance. If you have any questions, or would like to find out what a manufacturer recommends for your particular vehicle, stop in, we have all the vehicle manufacture recommended service and maintenance schedules and will be glad to print up at no charge to you all service and maintenance schedules for your particular vehicle.
